You Are Beautiful!

I’ve had something on my mind for a while and my family is pretty close, so we always discuss this when it comes up.
I recently watched E!’s “What’s Eating You?”, a show that follows young women who have eating disorders. It broke my heart to watch them tell their story of how they thought they weren’t skinny enough and how many times they purged a day. Some  up to 5 or 6 times a day! One girl, a performer, started her career out at an average weight. But as the years went by, she got down to about 86 lbs. She is only 21! The thing that bothers me the most is that these women aren’t getting (what they think) these seemingly perfect body images from nowhere, the media has been feeding us that for years. The pressure from the media that the women feel to be thin is absolutely disgusting and I feel horrible for the young ladies (and older women) who feel like they have to alter themselves to look like the people they see on magazines and in movies. For one, magazines have gotten so bad at photoshopping that they are making healthy women look sick.  It’s impossible to make yourself look "perfect" like that model or celebrity when they had to be photoshopped in the first place because they didn’t look that way to begin with! Ugh, sorry it just makes me upset haha. This is not right and they are sending terrible messages, especially to those with low self esteem and think they have to look like that.

I did a paper on this earlier in college and found that Barbie also is another contributing factor (and a big one) to the “ideal” body figure which is also completely impossible. An older woman who was unsatisfied with herself had all kinds of surgery to actually make herself LOOK like Barbie…a plastic child's play doll.

We as women need to stop looking to the media for what their definition of “perfect” is because there is NO perfect. We were made in Christ’s image and should accept ourselves just the way we are because we are His masterpiece.

I wanted to share this video with you to show you exactly how much photoshopping goes into magazines and that stuff just to give you more of an idea…

I hope that helps and remember you are all beautiful in your own way! I hope you have a great evening :)
