I Am Thankful For...
Even though my family is celebrating Thanksgiving on Saturday, it's officially tomorrow and I thought I would share with you some things I am thankful for now because I just can't wait until then lol.
I have so much to be thankful for. I have been blessed beyond words. When I was back in my freshman year in college, I would keep this little note pad and write 10 things that I was thankful for each day. It really helped me to remember how amazing God is because I would start off on the obvious things (family and friends)...but as I thought I would "run out", I started thinking about the things I sometimes take advantage of...For instance, I am thankful for God waking me up each morning. I'm thankful for the roof over my head. I'm thankful that I'm able to eat every day and night. I'm thankful for my health. I'm thankful for my spiritual gifts. I'm thankful for Sunnybrook... I could go on and on.
I love Thanksgiving because it's a great time of the year to just take the time and realize what you are thankful for. Think about it...just being here in the United States is a blessing. For one, we could be in a foreign country where it's illegal to worship Christ....
I'm thankful for a lot, but what I would have to say I am most thankful for is my family. I'll sometimes be on the couch just watching everyone else do their own thing and think to myself, "I am so blessed"...might sound corny but it's true. My sister, Taylor, is about 2 years younger and we are pretty close. She is a beautiful woman of God and doesn't allow others to persuade her. Nick is my 15 year old brother that I know isn't like the other 15 year old boys out there, which I am very thankful for...let me tell ya lol. He's smart, talented and I know he values my parents' views on things as well. Ian is the youngest out of the family and is just the goofiest thing out there which I love because I can be silly too and he wouldn't notice. I cherish our time together and wouldn't change it for the world.
I am, and will always be, thankful for my parents. My dad is probably the most sincere and honest man you will ever meet. He is a man of integrity and cares so much about people. Like I said earlier, I am a daddy's girl, so I have always gone to him and can talk to him about anything. He has taught me so much and has helped me become the person I am today. If I ever need help with something, he gives me guidance and helps me through it. He's also shown me what to look for in a man, not a boy. I've always been very picky about who I date and that's because I honestly do compare them to my dad. When I pray for my future husband, I pray that he is a true man of God, integrity, compassion, sincerity, unconditional love, and honesty... just like my dad. I'm thankful for my dad and the bond that we share :)
Like my dad, I share an amazing bond with my mom. She's also helped me become the person I am today. She's taught me a lot about faith, life, how to laugh at yourself, how to stick up for what's right, yourself and others, and what a true woman of God looks like. Just to name a few. I'm SO thankful that my parents talk to us, "I love you" isn't a phrase we hear every once in a while, and they cared enough to be the parent rather than our "BFF". It saddens me when I see my friends going down the wrong path because their parents aren't involved in their lives and are too involved with their work. Or the children want nothing to do with their parents. I know we go through that stage when we're teenagers, but it's so important to have them in your life. And I'm thankful I do.
