25. Last Book You Read

I am so glad I picked this book up. It really helped me with trusting God and knowing that He knows what He's doing. Don't get me wrong, I always have, but this book is so well written and easy to relate to because you just can't put it down. Probably because you're constantly saying to yourself, "yes! I know what you mean!"...at least I was.

"When God Writes Your Love Story" was written by Eric and Leslie Ludy who were best friends at the time and eventually fell in love and married. They take turns writing from their own perspective and sharing their own stories until the day God brought them together. One of the most memorable things I took away from this book was this passage:

"I am the Author of true love; I am the Creator of romance...You have searched for true love in your own way. But My ways are not your ways. I want to script a beautiful tale just for you, but first you must trust Me with the pen of this precious area of your life. Will you let Me write your love story?"

Wow, how true is that? So many times we try to be our own matchmaker and we often wonder why it doesn't work out...hmm, maybe it's because WE were doing the matchmaking. We need to save ourselves the heartbreak and everything attached to that and just leave that up to Him because He knows us better than we know ourselves!

There are so many incredibly good quotes from this book and I want to continue sharing some with you. This next quote is from Eric. He's telling us about how he could begin a romance with his future wife long before he would ever meet her:

"The secret to a heavenly romance is to begin practicing purity for a woman and cherishing her with your thoughts, actions, and words long before you even meet her. It was my goal, from the night I blew my whopping ninety-one cents, to begin to live as if she could see me. I wanted to adore her and cherish her before I even met her, And I realized I could do that by choosing, in every situation life brought my way, to think of her as if she were right beside me and to consider how my decisions would affect her."

I don't know about you, but I pray my future husband is doing the same thing because this is what we all deserve. But we should also do the same, ladies! This next quote talks about how being single can have it's advantages:

"Singleness can be the perfect time for developing life skills and discovering how to use your talents for the Lord."

Very important to remember, especially when you get into the dumps about not having that significant other. Whenever we start to think, "why am I alone?", think about what you could be doing to glorify the kingdom. What are the desires or your heart?...Please read this next excerpt. It's a little long, but it's worth it I promise. From Leslie:

"I remember having a conversation with a friend of mine who had been married to a wonderful Christian man for five years. "I don't know if my standards are too high, " I told her. "I am so confused. I have all these desires for a certain type of man, but I haven't even seen one guy who fits what I'm longing for in a husband!"
Her advice that day has stayed with me for years. She reminded me of the promise God gave in Psalm 37:4: "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of you heart."
"Leslie, what are the main qualities you've always wanted in a man?" she asked.
I though for a moment, then whipped out my mental checklist that I'd tucked away in the corner of my mind, adding to it over the years. "Well, I want someone who treats me like a princess, someone who is sensitive, tender, gentle, brave, full of integrity, servant hearted, and honorable just to name a few." Then I laughed self-consciously. "I guess I'm holding out for Prince Charming," I said sheeplishly.
"Not really." she replied. "Just think about all those qualities you mentioned. Who can you think of that is a perfect example of all those character traits?"
"Uh...Superman?" I guessed.
"No, Jesus Christ," she responded, eyes shining. "You see, Leslie, those desires for that kind of a man have been in your heart from a young age. But you are not the one who came up with those longings. It was God who put them in your heart, because He wants you to look for a man with the character of Jesus Christ."

I pray that all of you delight yourselves in the Lord today and remember to never settle! I'm going to leave you with a very fitting scripture and pray that you all have a great day!

"Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10
